Challenge
Preservation and lendability (for museum presentation). The Orivit wine bottle holders are currently exhibited at Villa Rams Woerthe in Steenwijk, a museum house managed by the Hendrick de Keijser association.
Approach
Bent parts of the object were bent back using a wooden counter-form. A mold of a complete part of the decoration was made from silicone rubber. Casting wax was poured into this mold and cast in tin. New parts were finished and soldered into the original object. The parts were then retouched with Golden acrylics.
Outcome
The Orivit wine bottle holders were successfully restored and are now available for loan for museum presentation. They are exhibited at Villa Rams Woerthe in Steenwijk.
